Key Concepts: Filter Center |

The Filter Center allows you to build Custom Filters to access specific slices of your database. In turn, this allows you to specify these groups of data for important functions like Reports, Mass Emailing, and other database needs.
The Filter Center deals with "Custom Filters," which are specially built from a variety of criteria. Unlike Quick Filters, which are created automatically by the system, Custom Filters are completely user created.
Custom / Quick Filter Relationships
One of the most important concepts having to do with filters is how they interact with each other. There are two different ways of interacting together: AND and OR.
An AND relationship means that in order to "show up" in a filter, and account, program, etc. has to meet BOTH criteria.
An OR relationship means that the same item only has to meet one of the possible criteria.
By default, the system combines Custom with Quick filters in an AND Relationship, and Quick Filters within the same group (Season, Program, Category, etc) in an OR relationship.
Filter Center AND/OR Relationships
Within a Custom Filter itself, the criteria you specify will determine how the Filter is built. There are many different boxes within the Filter Center. Selections made between two different boxes will result in an AND relationship. Choices within the same box will result in an OR relationship:
In the example above, the filter will result in only showing accounts that are registered in either "Program 1 2009" or "Program 3 2009" and that also have the "Quantity FO" Financial Option.
Using these concepts as you work with the Filter Center will help you create the filters you need to retrieve the information you want from your database. |
